“Doing Us Our Way” is a documentary by DocNoteFilms studio with the participation of Babylon’13 association, which explores military humor and sustainability. Through 3 themes – military life, “paper” army and combat curiosities – viewers will be able to see how Ukrainians joke in order to remain themselves and continue the fight against the enemy. Ukrainian soldiers from the 17th separate tank brigade, the medical service of the International Legion, the Thor Group and the Hammer Group became the heroes of the film.

The film will be available on the Babylon’13 YouTube channel in mid-May. The tape will also be shown on Public Television. The creators of the project seek to tell about the humor, stubbornness and dedication of the Ukrainian military, who, while doing the most incredible, continue to remain ordinary people.

“The topic of humor in war is currently practically absent in Ukrainian documentary cinema. But, filming a lot and communicating with military personnel at the front and in the rear, we always saw one thing – as soon as the ice of the first acquaintance breaks, jokes and curious banter begin to flow. Therefore, we set out to investigate this phenomenon through a documentary film, tried to figure out how the soldiers adapted to the realities of the Great War through various jokes, sarcasm, banter and satire.
Director of photography Pavlo Lipa tells

The filming of “We do our own thing” took place last fall and winter in Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. In addition, the tape uses video materials provided by the military themselves.

The project was created with the support of the Ukrainian Veterans Fund.

Stay tuned to the DocNoteFilms Facebook page for updates on the film, and look forward to “Doing Ourselves” online this May.
